Southern Leopard Frog
Rana sphenocephala
Order Anura: Frogs And Toads
Family Ranidae: Riparian Frogs And True Frogs
Adults: The Southern Leopard Frog is a medium-sized frog; its head is longer and more pointed than in R. pipiens. Its background color is green, greenish-brown, or brown.
The dorsal spots are rounded rather than angular, not outlined in white or yellow, and are scattered in an irregular fashion on the back. These spots are usually smaller in number and size than in R. pipiens. A discrete white spot is usually evident in the middle of the tympanum. Dorsolateral folds are present and unbroken.
